New Pet comes responsibility. Here is a checklist for new fur parent!
Congratulations! You are a new fur parent! Bringing a pet to your home is a responsibility. Your pet will be a new member of your growing family, and as a puppy or kitten, it will need more of your time, love, and care.
New pet? So what now? Here is a list of the first things you need to do:
1. Take to a vet for a wellness exam
– One of the best ways to keep your new pet in top health is with regular check-ups and routines. Knowing your pet's overall wellness with the help of our Vets helps them get the right nutrition, behavior, exercise, and all the best tips for a healthy lifestyle. Talk to our Vets!
2. Do get core vaccines
- The immunities passed on to a young animal by its mother last only a few weeks. Getting the series of core vaccines for your pet to protect them against disease ensures your pets will grow into happy and healthy adults. Veterinarians recommend immunizing puppies and kittens at 6 to 8 weeks of age.
3.Have your pet MICROCHIP
- Veterinarians encourage pet parents to make sure pets are microchipped and have identification tags. Getting identified helps a lot of fur parents that lost their pets.
4.Have your PET LICENSE
– Most municipalities require pet licenses around the time of your puppy or kitten’s first rabies vaccination. Make a habit of keeping their information up to date!
5. Socializing your pet
– Every household member is encouraged to spend time with their new furry friends. Make time for playing, feeding, and grooming. Give your pet a chance to become familiar with many sounds and activities in your home like doorbells, mail carriers, TV, etc. One other key to healthy socialization is learning to be alone. Train your pet to accept time in their crate or gated area by taking a walk or being in a room without them.
